So, speaking of puppies…

I really feel the need to talk about my Watson for a bit. I spend approximately 420% of my time every day thinking about him. He’s been such a weird and wonderful thing to watch. And when I say thing, I really do mean thing. Some of you may recognize this photo of the three little orphans about a week after they came to us as fuzzy, wiggling worms.

He then proceeded to grow…

And grow!



While he has been growing, so has my adoration of him (cue studio audience ‘awww’). I don’t know how to explain the joy I feel when I come downstairs in the morning to be greeted by my Watson. My day hasn’t started right unless I’ve had a couple of minutes to sit down on the floor with my (over 50 pound) puppy in my lap. He rides with me in the car on my way to school and is sitting in the backseat waiting for me when my mom comes to pick me up. He just makes life good.

I’ve been spending some time taking him to the park nearby to work with him on modeling paying attention to me even when there’s lots of other stuff going on around us. Lately, I’ve been combining that with some photo time, because he quite frankly has become a truly handsome specimen of a dog.



This next one is really just an outtake… but I’m sharing it with you all because it makes me laugh every time I look at it. Watson is generally such a zen dog. Curious, but not spastic… well, that’s a lie, but you get my drift. However, there was a game of catch going on behind my head while I was taking these photos and at one point, he apparently just couldn’t take sitting still and watching it anymore.

The last few are a bit more personal. Their main purpose is to provide more puppy-filled fodder for my profile picture on facebook, and are therefore not really my best work. They mean a lot to me, though. They are really a perfect display of why I love photography. These are moments, captured. Frozen in time forever. These are all moments I find myself in several times a day with my dog, and now they have been documented. Just the way they should be.




I kinda, sorta love him.

puppy models needed.

Hey everyone!

I have a request. I’m looking for puppy models under 16 weeks old for a photo project in the Los Angeles area. Compensation would be one 8×10 print of your choice, from the shoot. See some of my previous dog work here, or just browse around the blog. If you have an adorable little fluff, or know someone that does, let me know in the comments or via email. I’d like to be done with my project by October 8th, and those pups are getting bigger by the second, so time is of the essence!

baked mussels & green tea pound cake.

Just a quick food post, because I was looking through some of my photos from earlier this year and these two made me hungry.

I like to make dinner for my family on occasion. There was a time when the plan was for me to do it once a week, but that has never completely worked out. Still, cooking is one of my favorite things to do (aside from eating). This past February, I cooked several meals, including this one.

The main dish was Japanese baked mussels. This is one of my absolute favorite dishes. I order them so much, our favorite sushi chef puts them into the oven the second he sees me walk in the door. That being the case, it seemed obvious that I learn how to make them myself. I first made an aioli with garlic, egg, powdered horseradish, fresh lemon juice, rice vinegar, and olive oil. Just before spreading the aioli onto the mussels, I added a bit of half and half, Sriracha, and tobiko. The mussels were laid out on a foil lined baking pan, sauced, and broiled. 15 minutes or so later, dinner was served.

They turned out pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. I served them alongside miso soup, a seaweed and cucumber salad, and some spicy edamame.

For dessert, I made a green tea pound cake using this recipe. It didn’t turn out quite how I expected, but was still pretty good. A dollop of sour cream and some black lava salt completed the dish.

Nothing like pretty food that tastes good, too.

huzzah – southern california renaissance faire.

My friend Emily (the girl from the ballet photos) worked at the renaissance faire this spring. So, I decided to don some ren garb and spend the day with her at the faire. There was food and festivities aplenty, and much to photograph. I spent a lot of the day drinking iced hibiscus tea and hiding in the shade of the booth where Emily worked. Next year, I plan to go in much more weather appropriate clothing and do nothing but take photos and eat food. However, despite the ridiculous number of layers of clothing, I braved the heat and sun for a quick photo expedition. Here’s just a few shots from that crazy day!
