About Me

Hey, I’m Zoie Pulkka. I’m an 18 year old lifestyle photographer living in California.

Photography to me is a way to not only preserve worlds, but create them. I love watching people be in love and committing it to film, but I also like taking my dreams and making them real. My love for fantasy has a habit of sneaking its way into many of my photos.
I am often asked what my favorite thing to photograph is. I try to choose something specific, but I’ve decided that a better answer would simply be: life. Food, people, animals, nature, architecture — you name it, I’ll capture it.

About the girl:
My whole life kind of revolves around the arts. I started acting when I was 4 years old and remain very active in the theatre as both an onstage and backstage participant. I play piano and saxophone, and I’m teaching myself guitar and harmonica. I love to write, sing, dance, and draw (although, I’m really not very good at the last two). I listen to all kinds of music 24/7 and love going to art museums. I started teaching myself the art of photography in 2006 and haven’t been able to put my camera down since.
Outside of the art world, I love biking, swimming, horseback riding, Kung Fu San Soo, tennis, ice skating, and pretty much anything else that will keep me moving. A day at a theme park with gigantic roller coasters and unlimited churros is pretty much my idea of a perfect day, but I also love to curl up on the couch with a good book, a cup of tea, and my many animals. Food is a huge part of my life and I am a habitual baker, dabbling in the more savory side of cooking. I study all aspects of Japanese language and culture passionately and have passed level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I have an obsession with all things Beatles, Shakespeare, and Doctor Who. I collect penguins, Buddy Holly glasses, and guitar picks. I adore 80′s movies and would really like to be best friends with Fred Savage. I will gladly help you dye your hair hot pink or hunker down in the basement to play a few rounds of Call of Duty with you. I’ve been to Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and China. I really want to add Italy, Greece, England, Finland, and France to that list.

About the trade:
I shoot with a Canon Rebel XTi and am saving up for a 5D Mark II. I use Adobe CS6 and Lightroom 4 for all of my post processing. My list of lenses include the Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3, Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6, Canon 50mm f/1.2 L, and the Lensbaby Composer, along with the Lensbaby fisheye optic, creative aperture discs, and the macro kit. I am almost entirely self-taught, other than a beginners Photoshop class I took in 2007. I consider my style to be very modern and personal. I love an on-location shoot with great natural lighting, bright colors, and fun props. I put a lot of effort into getting to know my clients and encouraging them to really show off all aspects of their personality in front of that lens. The most important thing about my sessions is you, the client, and I want you to really feel that during all aspects of your session. From the very beginnings of planning to the final viewing, you are the star. I also shoot just for the love of the art. I don’t really feel that I have a set style for my artistic photos. It’s just snapshots of my life, sitting still and looking pretty.

So that’s me.

  1. Hello, Zoie!
First off, you do beautiful work! I found you through A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Upright Egg this past summer (I played Helena). Leah sent us the gorgeous photos that you took, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I added you on Facebook, because I was wondering if you’d be willing to take headshots for me? I’m at college currently, but I’ll be home in early March, if you’d be available to do a shoot. What is your pricing for photos?
Let me know if you’d be willing/interested!
    Thanks, Zoie and take care!
    Renée :)
